Trick-or-Treat Halloween Cupcakes

Posted on : | By : admin | In : Family

In the twilight of All Hallow’s Eve, the glow of carved pumpkins, the silhouette of a hook-nose witch and the flickering flames of huge torches create a bewitching scene to greet party guests. Preparing a party for the upcoming Halloween will be fun, exciting and memorable.

Let your children prepare snacks for their playmates after a long night of trick-and-treat. Cupcakes are preferred choice of snack treat for kids of all ages. Cupcakes can be decked out for all occasion. For a more fun-filled Halloween activity, let them participate in the kitchen and together prepare the Hallow Cupcakes.

Basic Cupcake Recipe

•    2-1/4 cups all purpose flour
•    1-1/3 cups sugar
•    3 teaspoons baking powder
•    1/2 teaspoon salt
•    1/2 cup shortening
•    1 cup milk
•    1 teaspoon vanilla
•    2 large eggs

1.    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners.
2.    Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add shortening, milk, and vanilla. Beat for 1 minute on medium speed. Scrape side of bowl with a spatula.
3.    Add eggs to the mixture. Beat for 1 minute on medium speed. Scrape bowl again. Beat on high speed for 1 minute 30 seconds until well mixed.
4.    Spoon cupcake batter into paper liners until 1/2 to 2/3 full.
5.    Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
6.    Cool 5 minutes in pans then remove and place on wire racks to cool completely.

And to achieve a more Halloween impression, here’s how:

Spooky Mummy Cupcakes

•    Cupcakes (recipe above)
•    Vanilla frosting
•    M&M Mini’s
•    Small zip-lock freezer bag

1. Put icing on each cake.
2. Roll out the prepared icing to a thin sheet as per instructions on pack.
3. Cut strips of icing.
4. Put the M&M’s mini in place, as eyes on the cupcake.
5. Drape the strips of icing over the cake to create the mummy.

Place the cupcakes in a box designed with Halloween elements to add more mystery. Children will enjoy making these almost as much as they will enjoy the party.
